I am a big fan of Colt Cabana, I enjoy both his podcast and his wrestling. I first became aware of Adam Pearce because of his feud with Colt and I truly enjoy his old school type of work. When I first heard about the 7 Levels of Hate series of matches I thought it was a pretty cool idea and instantly reminded me of the ‘Best of Seven’ series between Magnum T.A. and Nikita Koloff back in the 80s. Those matches have taken on an almost legendary status and helped raise both men up to a higher profile. I had hopes that this new series of matches would do the same for Colt, Adam and the NWA. I’m not sure that it has accomplished all that, but it has led to some entertaining matches, inspired promos (mostly from Pearce) and an interesting story line.
Now someone has put together highlights from the first 3 matches, as well as some promos from the build to those matches. It is an excellent piece of work and I look forward to the second part which I hope will be just as well done as this one was.
Two of the seven matches were held about 15 minutes from my house in Bridgewater, Massachusetts at New England Championship Wrestling shows. The first was a Boston Street Fight and the second was a dog collar match. I think the first match was the better of the two, but I am now happy to say that I’ve seen a dog collar match live! Here’s a picture of me and Colt from that event:
Adam Pearce had a table set up with his shirts and some 8x10s and I waited around for him but he never showed up. I’m not sure if someone else was supposed to be working his table for him or not, but I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t get to meet him and buy some of his stuff. But after seeing how he berated the fans and really drew a lot of heat from the crowd it’s not too surprising that he didn’t want to be out there mingling with the fans being nice to them and shaking their hands. I guess maybe he’s even more old school than I thought!
